Why Personal Effectiveness is Important In The Workplace

personal effectiveness in the workplace

Small business leaders are busy. Keeping a company running and profitable is a huge undertaking and requires a lot of attention and determination. That is why it is easy to overlook the importance of your personal effectiveness.

Personal effectiveness is a critical set of skills that effective leaders utilize, often without much thought. It is your talents, strengths, skills, energy, and time that allow you to achieve both work and life goals.

When you know how you work best, you can be the best for your company.

So how do you know how you work best?

Find out!

For me, it all started with the Emotional Intelligence 2.0 Assessment.

This test measures your self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. When I took the Emotional Intelligence 2.0 test back in 2010, it showed me some things I knew I needed to develop skills in if I was going to successfully live my purpose. In fact, I didn’t love what I learned – I had some big disconnects that took a few years to work on – and it wasn’t easy!

The other great tool I like for understanding what drives you and where your strengths are is Strengths Finder 2.0.

This test helps you to see what you naturally do best and can help you develop your greatest talents into strengths.

My top five strengths are:

  • Ideation
  • Achiever
  • Futuristic
  • Learner
  • Strategic

This is helpful in my business because I can see where I excel and where I will need help from others to make my business successful.

There are other tests out there as well, but the point is to find out your natural strengths to use them to be an effective leader.

Once you understand how you work best, your confidence will grow, and confidence is the catalyst for being more effective.

How to Enhance Your Personal Effectiveness

  • Take care of your health
  • Ask for feedback from others
  • Create organizational habits
  • Strengthen your communication skills
  • Listen to others effectively
  • Work with a growth mindset
  • Take responsibility for your actions
  • Hire a coach to help

Helping leaders of small businesses and nonprofits with this is a big part of what our coaches at Transitions in Nature do. We help with mindset, habit change, and skill acquisition, all intending to support leaders who deliver services or products that their audiences need.

What do successful leaders like Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, Steve Bennett, former CEO of Intuit, Oprah Winfrey, and Serena Williams all have in common?

They all used a business coach to reach a high level of success.

They recognized that to go far, you need someone who can help you see the forest for the trees. A coach helps you clarify and co-create a path for moving forward that will bring you to doing your best work and delivering your best product to your ideal client.

With excellent coaching and using my resources, I have made so many positive changes in my work and personal life that I am on a mission to share what I’ve learned with others. And, I know that coaching works on so many levels! This is why almost every single one of our Transitions In Nature Coaches has some level of Personal Effectiveness Coaching in their portfolio.

Yes, we have Marketing, Finance, and Strategic Planning consulting and coaching on our team, but we also have Mind Body Focused, Health & Wellness, and Spirituality Focused coaches. Everyone on our team is committed to helping our ideal clients—leaders of small businesses and nonprofits—succeed.

Personal Effectiveness Coaching is available to help you grow and develop into the best version of yourself. We love being a resource for our clients and are here for you. Just reach out and share your concern/issue, and I’d be happy to show you how we can help you make a shift that can transform the nature of how you show up in your business.  You can reach me at elaine@transitionsinnature.com.
